The South East geopolitical zone is currently witnessing a massive expansion of its economic and transit corridors as of April 11, 2026. The maritime sector is also seeing significant trending activity today. In Ebonyi State, the government is currently pushing for the dredging of the Cross River channel to provide the landlocked state with a direct route to the Atlantic. This project, which was a major talking point at the recent South East Forum of Former Governors, is being framed as a vital component of the region’s 2027 economic integration plan. As the states in the zone move closer toward a unified economic bloc, these multi-billion naira transit projects are becoming the primary metrics by which the electorate is judging the performance of their current leaders.
